Allow me to introduce myself.

Hi, I’m Larry Hirshowitz! I moved to Los Angeles from South Africa in 1991, bringing with me a deep appreciation for the beauty, diversity, and raw humanity that shaped my experiences in Apartheid-era South Africa. That background has given me a unique eye for capturing the world around me, whether it’s the rich stories of everyday people or the more intense moments that show our shared humanity. I’ve photographed everyone from Ben Kingsley and David Lynch to the striking murals in South Central LA, aiming to tell stories that feel authentic, compassionate, and impactful.

Over the years, I’ve had my work published in places like New York Times Magazine, Los Angeles Magazine, Sydney Morning Herald Magazine, Fast Company, LA Weekly, and many others. I’ve also been lucky enough to work on commercial ad campaigns where I can bring my own full-frame, atmospheric style to life for a brand. One of my favorite roles is serving as the resident photographer on KCRW’s “Morning Becomes Eclectic” for more than 20 years. Through that, I’ve had the pleasure of documenting an amazing lineup of musicians like Elvis Costello, Beck, and even a very young Coldplay!

But one of the things I truly love is capturing life’s big celebrations. Weddings, bar mitzvahs, birthday parties, music festivals, corporate events—you name it, I’m there. Each event has its own energy and personality, and I love blending in to capture those candid, memorable moments that make each gathering so special. For me, it’s all about documenting those fleeting smiles, laughs, and heartfelt moments that, when you look back at them, bring the whole event back to life.
